The conference  will  examine  the  role  that  archivists, records  managers,  and  other  information  professionals  can  play  in  constructing  and  in  deconstructing  how  we  create,  capture, preserve, and make accessible reliable records and information.

Instructor: Lisa Glandt, Coordinator, AABC Education and Advisory Services

The AABC is pleased to offer a brand new 1 day workshop on managing archival donations and deaccessions. Participants will review how to build a strong policy framework so that archival donations start off on the right footing once they arrive at your institution. We will then discuss how to implement a deaccessioning program and the stages of reappraisal and disposal. The workshop will include discussion of:

  • Developing a "donation checklist" that includes Deed of Gift, Donor questionnaire, Accession Record, Appraisal Report, Condition Report
  • Donor relationships
  • How to create a deaccessioning policy
  • "Reappraisal" and determining deaccessioning criteria
  • Assessing your collection and preparing items for Deaccessioning
  • Methods of disposal
  • Public trust and ethics
