"Richmond Schools - What's in a Name?" (City of Richmond Archives)

A new online historical resource, "Richmond Schools - What's in a Name?" traces the expansion of the Richmond school system over the past 125 years, emphasizing how and why each school was given its name, and therefore, a part of its identity. The exhibit is organized into sections corresponding to periods of growth and development within the Richmond school system and in the community itself.

British Columbia Archives (Royal BC Museum) -- Exhibitions

The British Columbia Archives Time Machine is an educational exhibit providing accessibility to British Columbia historical documents, images, and other multimedia information in a format designed for school-age children. Government site also includes the following virtual exhibits: Welcoming the Royals: The Archival Legacy / Victoria, 1889 / Hannah and Richard Maynard / Moving Image Collection.

 

British Columbia Central Coast Archives -- "Bella Coola Valley Digital Heritage Project"

The "Bella Coola Valley Digital Heritage Project" consists of historic theme pages relating to people, settlements and events in the Bella Coola Valley, an online historical photograph database, and a series of teacher-ready educational resources.

 

British Columbia Institute of Technology Archives -- History of Aircraft Maintenance Training

"Aircraft Maintenance Training: The First Fifty Years" is a multimedia exhibit, and includes a searchable digitized collection of audio and video clips, photographs, and textual records.

 

British Columbia Medical Association Archives -- "Portraits of the Presidents"

"Portraits of the Presidents" consists of photographic portraits from the holdings of the BCMA Archives depicting the presidents of the BC Medical Association from 1899 to 2003. Exhibit also includes biographical sketches of the early presidents (1899-1950).

Campbell River Museum and Archives

"'A Moment in Time', A Collection of Henry Twidle's Photographs" is a virtual exhibit incorporating photographs from the archival holdings of the Museum at Campbell River taken by Henry Twidle at the beginning of the 20th century. Photographs include logging camps, commercial fishing boats and canneries, and pioneer settlements and settlers. An earlier online gallery of historical photographs depicting fishing technology is also still available.

 

City of Burnaby Archives

The exhibit "Burnaby's Documentary Heritage: One Hundred Years of Record Keeping and Reflection" originally created for the official opening of the City of Burnaby Archives has been reproduced in pdf format and is accessible from the archives web site.

 

City of Richmond Archives -- Virtual Exhibits

Virtual exhibits include: History of Richmond Municipality, an exhibit based on a local history project carried out in 1923 by a student, Mary Thompson; the Richmond Cenotaph, a reflection on the Cenotaph in Richmond as a memorial to honour those who died for our country in time of war; Richmond Schools - What's in a Name?, tracing the development of schools and the school system in Richmond; and, the Bylaws Conservation Treatment Project Report, describing the restoration of the City of Richmond's first 196 bylaws created between 1880 and 1912.

 

City of Victoria Archives -- "Victoria Vignettes"

A new online resource, "Victoria Vignettes" provides access to a series of programs jointly produced by the City of Victoria Archives and Shaw TV. Each segment focuses on a location, building, or event that has played a special role in Victoria's past. In addition, an earlier exhibit entitled Royal Visits to Victoria (1939-1971), produced in honour of Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee, is still available online.

 

Cranbrook Archives, Museum and Landmark Foundation "Picturesque Cranbrook Album"

Virtual exhibit entitled "Picturesque Cranbrook Album" is an online representation of a booklet published in 1905, depicting images of Cranbrook and area. This album was originally published "to celebrate a decade of growth and prosperity in Cranbrook."

 

Enderby and District Museum and Archives "Snapshots from the Past"

Online exhibit of historical photographs (organized by theme) documenting the history of Enderby and surrounding areas. Includes an Image Directory with links to all online photographs.

Fort St. John-North Peace Museum SchoolNet Project

This SchoolNet project, entitled "The Changing Faces of the North Peace", provides an historical introduction to the North Peace region of B.C. and includes photographs of people, industry, and early activities in the area.

 

Fort Steele Heritage Town Archives Virtual Exhibits

Online exhibits include "Anecdotes from the 1890s", containing photographs and letters from the end of the 19th Century in the East Kootenay, and the Fort Steele Heritage Town Archives "Photograph Album" and "Map Archives", which include digitized representations of significant photographs and maps in the archives' holdings.  New feature exhibits include "Kootenay: An Exploration of Historic Prejudice and Intolerance" and "Travel Diaries of R.V. Bing".

 

Fraser-Fort George Regional Museum "J. Simonson Photographic Collection" SchoolNet Exhibit

The Simonson Collection exhibit represents the work of Mr. Jacob Simonson, who resided in the Fort George area of Central B.C., now known as Prince George. His works span the early part of the century, and provide a visual record of local history.

 

Kitimat Centennial Museum -- Project History

Online exhibit documents the history of the Kitimat Smelter and Town and the massive Kitimat-Kemano Project featuring photographic images from the collections of the Kitimat Centennial Museum, Alcan Primary Metal British Columbia, and the Northern Sentinel Press.

Nanaimo Community Archives / Malaspina University College -- Nanaimo Chinatowns

Online exhibit documents the history of the various Chinatowns in Nanaimo, and provides searchable, online access to digitized documents, maps, photographs, and interviews/oral histories from the holdings of the Nanaimo Community Archives.

 

New Westminster Public Library's "New Westminster Heritage Website"

Includes an online database of the Library's historical photograph collection, a virtual tour of New Westminster history, a guide to genealogy resources, a guide to researching and restoring heritage homes, links to New Westminster heritage organizations, and a collection of local history online.

 

North Vancouver Museum and Archives

The West Coast Forestry SchoolNet Project uses images and narrative text from the archives to illustrate the growth and demise of the forestry industry on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet. The West Coast Shipbuilding SchoolNet Project uses images from the archives depicting the history of shipyards on the North Shore, including the Versatile Pacific Shipyard.

Shawnigan Lake School Archives

Exhibits of archival material and historical summaries relating to a variety of significant persons and events at Shawnigan Lake School.


South Peace Historical Society - History is Where You Stand

Virtual exhibit entitled "History is Where You Stand" based on the Dorthea Calverley collection of historical articles authored by Calverley and books, reference material and archives relating to the natural and human history of the Peace River area of British Columbia. Exhibit includes a short article on the history of the Peace River area written by Gerry Clare.

 

United Church of Canada BC Conference Archives -- Marine Coast Missions on the Central Coast

Gallery/exhibit features images and commentary relating to the history of the United Church of Canada's Marine Missions on the Central Coast of British Columbia.
