Project Archivist
Part Time Consultant position (flexible working hours, of 8 hours per week for 40 weeks per year)

The AARJHSON are seeking a part-time project archivist for a period of 3 years to manage the transfer of the Alumnae Association's Archives and Museum materials to the custody of the University of Victoria Archives, the Victoria Medical Heritage Society (VMHS), and the Royal BC Museum (RBCM), or other institutions.

The project archivist will work with current AARJHSON Archives Museum volunteers on the management of archival and museum materials, and liaise with UVic, VMHS, and RBCM staff. This position will report to the Chair of the Archives Committee with professional supervision by UVic Archivist or delegate.

The project archivist, in consultation with the AARJHSON, will determine the final disposition of any materials not transferred to the identified institutions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities will include:
1. Appraisal of the archives and museum holdings to ensure appropriateness of transfer to UVic, Victoria Medical Heritage Society, the RBCM, and other institutions.
2. Review holdings for any preservation work needed.
3. Assess Past Perfect software for export/transfer of data and liaise with RBCM and UVic Library Systems.
4. Conduct a privacy review of holdings.
5. Review donation records for any conditions that will affect transfer.
6. Ensure all material is inventoried.
7. Determine logistics of the moves.
8. Complete any archival arrangement and description necessary and add to UVic's AtoM and MemoryBC.

In addition, as required, the project archivist may assist with regular archival and museum duties:
1. Accessioning of items for Archives and Museum Collection, in accordance with accepted professional practice;
2. Ensuring safe preservation and security of items in the Collection;
3. Preparing and maintaining inventory of the Collection;
4. Recommending to the Archives Committee, as required, Policies and Procedural guidelines for accessioning, deaccessioning, and handling of archival collection and museum artifacts;
5. Providing access to items in the Collection, as approved by the Archives Committee;
6. Assisting, if required, with enquiries from School of Nursing Alumnae and the general public;
7. Working with volunteers to assist in the maintenance of the Collection;
8. Other duties as may be required.

Qualifications and Experience - an individual who:
1. Holds a Masters of Archival Studies or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Has a minimum of 3 years' experience.
3. Has proven computer literacy in Microsoft Office and experience with Museum and Archival management software.
4. Is physically and mentally able to carry out the responsibilities in the working hospital environment.
5. Must have ability to communicate effectively and give and understand written and oral instructions.
6. Has experience working in a volunteer-run organization.
7. Must enjoy teamwork and have effective interpersonal and conflict resolutions skills.
